Its been built as a semi-final before the semi-finals with both teams needing a win to stay alive in the race for the top eight, with the loser most likely dropping out of the race for September glory.
Campese said the key to a win in Brisbane tonight is confidence and said the Raiders would be looking for a win to maintain their own destiny.
“You get confidence after a few wins and we need to take that into the game against Brisbane, get a good victory and put ourselves into the semis,” Campese said. “We need to win and leave it in our own hands, if we leave it to someone else we might not be there next week so we have to have the attitude to win.”
The Broncos will be without Darren Lockyer for tonights match but announced yesterday their halfback Peter Wallace will play and Campese said there are more dangers in the Broncos line-up as well.
They’ve got a great side with Sam Thaiday and Corey Parker and they’re going to go out and throw the ball around so we need to be at our best,” he said. “We’re playing well as a team which is the main thing and if we can take the confidence from the last few weeks up there I’m sure we can get a good victory.”
Campese said the team was filled with an air of excitement ahead of a possible 45000 plus crowd tonight at Suncorp and said the nerves will be there early but he expects the team to settle into the game.
“Its exciting times for the whole squad, we haven’t played in such a big game before and we hear its going to be a big crowd so we’re excited for the young guys and we’ll be up for it,” he said. “For the last five weeks we’ve needed to win the game to stay alive and I think it’s good leading into the semis if we make it.”
